'Mzelle Dondon II'wood, stone, shell & plaster

Each day we see how humans have been cut off from their natural state in contemporary spaces transcended by new sets of landmarks. Isolated, domesticated, we are cut off from the past that echoes inside us.
Anonymous materials – wood, stone – tell our human story.
My work tries to capture, transcribe and talk to nature, a constant source of wonder for me.
I try to transcend what might seem simple to the eye. Hidden in a rock or a floating bit of wood is the human, the animal, the material, the mineral and the organic.
I like to think that we can break down the fixed notion we have of things.
I like to touch the sensuality and the strength of the elements.
I like to imagine the body, the spirit and the environment all playing the score of movement and life on an equal footing.
Time and the ephemeral.
Sculpture created using direct carving is a dialogue with the raw material, whether it’s wood or stone, marble or granite. Its flaws, its resistance to each blow and its texture are all played out in the intimate relationship sculptors have with their work.
Photography, the medium of our memory, is practiced daily, naively, unconsciously, and revives a form of primitive art.
Never explain, say little, just look and touch.
